The red side of Manchester have enjoyed an incredible 19 top-flight titles (one more than long-time record holders Liverpool). They have also won the FA Cup 11 times, the League Cup 4 times and the Charity/Community Shield on 19 occasions. Their record in Europe is not too bad either, winning the top prize three times and both the Uefa Cup and the Cup Winner's Cup once. Add to this their triumphs in the Intercontinental and Fifa World Club cups in 1999 and 2008 respectively and you have a pretty impressive trophy cabinet that is unrivalled in the whole country.
The club's first ever official match, which came in 1880, ended in a surprising 6-0 defeat against Bolton Wanderers. However, the club's first major trophy was acquired in 1908, when they won the League title for the first time. The following year saw their first ever FA Cup triumph.
The club now also has three league and cup doubles to their name, a feat only equalled by Arsenal, while they remain the only English club to have completed the coveted treble (including the Champion's League), doing so in 1999. Interestingly, the club have achieved all this success with an almost exclusively British management team (the Republic of Ireland's Frank O'Farrell was the only non-UK manager in the 1972-3 season).
On a final note, followers of the 20011-12 season may be interested to know that the only trophy the club has never won is the UEFA Europa league Cup. Manchester United bets on this one might prove profitable.
